When executing a turn use outside visual references and flight instruments. The nose of the aircraft appears to move in an arc with relation to the horizon. Turns are divided into three classess:

  • Shallow turns: Approximately 20 degrees angle of bank or less
  • Medium turns: Approximately 20 degrees to 45 degrees angle of bank
  • Steep turns: Approximately 45 degrees of bank or more
Procedure:
  1. Add power slightly. Turn aircraft in desired direction using ailerons and rudder while applying a slight amount of back pressure on the yoke to maintain altitude.
  2. When the turn is complete level out by using coordinated aileron and rudder controls while simultaneouly releasing back pressure on the yoke.
  3. Reduce power and release pressure on yoke.
